Life and work of local artist, Muhammed Suber. Born in Yonkers, New York, Artist InUs (Muhammad Suber) began sketching at about 4 years old. While growing predominantly self-taught, he started out using colored pencils, pens and markers to inject real-life figures into a fantasy setting, creating superheroes out of everyday people from his life into his work. His goals are to complete public art projects around his current hometown, Atlanta, and form an outreach to a community while breaking into the videogame industry as a 2D artist, creating a nonprofit that trains youth in artistic techniques and current 2D and 3D animation to increase the diversity of representation in emerging art-technology industries.

After featuring in The Art of Giving Showcase at A3C’s 15th Anniversary. Artist became a 2017 Hatch C4 Training Intensive participant, attending weekend coursework on community-based art, grant applications, and interacting in Atlanta’s public art community. He also showcased his art in various shows including: Focus, Art ‘n’ Spark, and TOSA fest. He has experience in portfolio and commissioned works of portraiture, landscape, logo and 2D illustration design using creative techniques such as pointillism, realism, and surrealism from a mixed medium of colored pencil, marker, pen & Ink, and an occupational brush and paint for the creation of his murals. Along with his work ethic, his advanced skills in the Adobe Suite with programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign to enhance the production process of his work’s progression, assisting in the ability to proceed on projects as a Fine Mural Artist.

He wants to used his talents and abilities along with entities like C4 and WonderRoot and Art on the Beltline to become more involved in community projects such as murals in order to create a form of Socially Engaged Art with his creative vision

Local artist Grace Kisa presents about her work and life.

Grace Kisa is a Kenyan-American artist based in Atlanta, Georgia.
A multimedia artist whose primary expression is sculpture, her process is mprovisational, combination of creative play and problem solving. The materials that she uses vary from clay, metal, wood, fiber, and resin. with a focus on recycling and repurposing ordinary objects .
Her work draws inspiration from the experiences of a childhood spent in Kenya, Ethiopia, Botswana, Virginia, and as a practicing artist Georgia. By taking what is familiar and transforming it, she creates narratives that engage various histories while working through concepts of intersectional identities, examining the processes of migration and cultural exchange beyond borders. Particular attention is given to ideas of comfort, alienation, adaptation and assimilation. Set against how that relates in a globalized world.
Grace graduated from the Art Institute in Atlanta, Georgia and has worked as a professional artist for over 20 years exhibiting in Solo and group exhibitions across the United States.

Calling all aspiring digital artists! Join us for a fun and informative workshop where you'll learn to create inspiring artwork like Jason Naylor, whose vibrant illustrations promote positivity. Using a Wacom One tablet and the free program Kleki, we'll explore the magic of digital drawing. This workshop will equip you with essential skills like layering, opening the door to exciting creative fields like graphic design. Get ready to transform your ideas into stunning visuals and explore how digital art can make a positive impact on the world! **Teachers will need to bring a computer/laptop.**

We will explore two wax resist and one paper resist technique while utilizing Mayco’s popular Stroke & Coat and Foundations glaze lines. This faux-Mishima technique allows for the 16th century glazing technique to be achieved on bisque instead of wet clay. Choose your favorite of two different provided patterns.

This will be a class on Self Care techniques for Art Educators. Explicit details will be given for how to use the strategies: Breathwork to aid stress relief, Morning Meditations and Affirmations, How to create a dynamic classroom to aid your work as the “Coaching Teacher”, Communication Skills, How to de-escalate an emotional crisis, Classroom Arrangement for Classroom Management, Self-Massage to Aid Stress Relief. Art-Journaling for Stress Relief

Teachers will engage in 10 mini lessons of journal prompts that will align with various technical skills and media explorations in their units of study in the Drawing & Painting classroom. This prepares students to have full and dynamic portfolios, and uses mini lessons to help drive home the bigger technical lessons that the teacher's unit focuses on.

This is a technique I use for every grade that I teach. I do a different symmetrical drawing for each of my grade levels. I would love to be able to show examples and go over the directions of how to draw bugs, owls, and dragons and have the teachers choose which of the three that they wish to try. Even though they will leave with only one drawing they will have a new technique and several ideas to use with symmetry. I have had great success with this project with all levels of students and the kids always leave with a project that they are proud of. They will use simple shapes to do a sketch on half of the paper. After the pencil sketch is complete they will trace all lines with sharpie and go to a window with pencil. They will flip the image over and the light at the window will serve as a light table to trace a perfectly symmetrical image on the other side. (Most classes do not have funding for more that one or two light tables so this gives access to a light source for all students.) They will trace the other side with sharpie and have an amazing symmetrical drawing completed in a single class period. I have pictures to show this process in use and tons of student examples of successful and beautiful drawings.

The Dr. Helen Fleming Stone Scholarship is the highest honor and largest scholarship bestowed on a National Art Honor Society student by the Georgia Art Education Association.  Dr. Stone established and built the scholarship through diligent hard work and tireless effort.  As an artist she was a gifted sculptor and potter, so she sold her work to fund the scholarship.  By 2006, she had raised the impressive sum of $60,000 – one pot at a time.  Following her death in 2007, GAEA assumed responsibility for assisting the Stone family with the fundraising efforts, hosting a silent auction of donated artwork by GAEA members and their students.  The scholarship endowment has grown to more than $88,000 and will continue assisting Georgia’s young gifted artists in their studies for many generations to come.

Life and work of Local Artist, Ana Cordoba. Ana is a Colombian, Atlanta based artist. She is famed for the great vitality of her works which are characterized by expressive and emotive use of brilliant colors and the energetic application of her impasto technique. Ana is also known for her versatile work through different media, such as murals, custom made wearable art, body painting, and her expressionist, and tridimensional artwork.


In Miami (2018) and Georgia (2021), Ana shared her colors at the Colombian Consulate with the Made in Colombia series as a initiative to share representative people, and culture from her homeland Colombia. Recently, these series were displayed on her Solo Exhibition at the Art Station Big Shanty Gallery and at The Quinlan.


In addition, her wearable art clothing was displayed on the runway at the Fashion Week, London 2021.


On March 2022 Ana Córdoba was diagnosed with breast cancer and she still walking this battle, since she chose an alternative and natural treatment as her way of healing. This decision lead her to a new journey of connecting with women healing cancer naturally as well, sharing her knowledge, bringing awareness to general health, which inspired her to start a support group named Mujer Monarca ( Monarch Woman). She is in the process of writing a book, and creating new artwork based on her experience, using art as part of her healing journey.

In this session, Jennifer Griner and Tiffany Weser will provide valuable insights into the AP Art and Design portfolio scoring process and share strategies for guiding students towards success. As experienced AP Readers, they have gained unique perspectives on what makes a portfolio stand out and the common pitfalls to avoid. Through engaging discussions and real-world examples, participants will learn: Key Factors for a Successful Portfolio, Navigating Challenges, and Biggest WHOAs. This session is ideal for art educators, AP Art and Design teachers, and anyone involved in guiding students through the AP portfolio process. Whether you're a seasoned educator or new to the AP program, you'll come away with practical strategies and a deeper understanding of what it takes to succeed in AP Art and Design.

Last year's GAEA award winners share their knowledge! Come celebrate these winners. 

This class will give several clay project ideas for younger children, steps on how to create the different projects, kiln answers, material management for clay, organizational ideas, and question/answer opportunity to someone who has been working with little kids and clay for 17 years.

In this workshop, we will present a project progression that we use in 3rd - 5th grade art that focuses on the self portrait as way for students to explore identity, representation and personal story telling. Starting with a traditional approach to drawing the self portrait in third grade and progressing through a digital self-portrait in the style if Kehinde Wiley in fourth grade and ending with a digital manipulation in 5th that we call "Multiplicity". We will discuss the spiraled approach and why we feel that it helps to develop deeper learning and personal connection to these projects. This workshop will explore the use of digital media as an art making tool that can connect to traditional media in a practical way. Examples and lesson details will be provided. **Bring your ipad or digital device if you want to create along with us.**

Join us for an immersive workshop experience where we delve into the intricacies of layered relief sculpture, equipping art teachers with the expertise to ignite creativity in their classrooms. Throughout the session, participants will not only gain hands-on experience crafting their own layered relief sculpture project but will also receive comprehensive lesson plan ideas to seamlessly integrate this dynamic medium into their curriculum. Departing with a project example in progress, educators will leave empowered with the tools and knowledge to extend this captivating art form beyond the workshop, fostering a deeper appreciation for depth and dimension in their students' artistic endeavors.

Come create AMAZING shrink plastic skateboards (with working wheels) that focus on identity!  
Attendees will create a mini skateboard (with working wheels) that focus on self and identity. Using ties to STEAM, attendees will discover shrink plastic and how it can be used to relate to scale and proportion.

We will use slab building techniques to create ceramic tripod vessels with or without a lid. Vessels will be made unique through exploration of mishima and sgraffito techniques.

Join us as we honor this year's Helen Fleming Stone scholarship recipient, YAM TOTY, and GAEA award winners.  As we close out the conference, we will hear from our keynote artist Joseph Veazey talk about his artistic process, his success as the creator of the ATL Rap Map, and the art teachers who helped him develop his amazing illustration career.
